Luis Perelman

"I was born and grew up in New York City and currently live in Westchester County, New York. Formally trained as an architect, I worked in architecture and city planning for many years.

As an artist, I have worked in a variety of media including assemblage and wall relief, photography, painting, sculpture and watercolor.

My primary interest is in the development and modulation of pattern and color. I am fascinated by the transformation that occurs when discarded or found objects become the basis for a work of art. My most recent work are wall reliefs using thin metallic surfaces, including flattened beverage cans, which I treat with patinas. This work is inspired by Islamic designs and American quilt patterns.

My work has been exhibited in museums and galleries in New York including the Whitney Museum, O.K. Harris, the Neuberger Museum of Art, Leo Castelli and Allan Stone Galleries.  It is also in many private collections including those of Roy Neuberger, Phillip Johnson and I.M. Pei."
