Daniel van Benthuysen has earned awards in juried national and regional exhibits. In 2014 he served as artist-in-residence at Weir Farm National Historic Site, the only site in the National Park System devoted to American painting. As a result of that residency, he was asked to join a panel discussion at the 2015 Annual Conference of the Alliance of Artist Communities.
He teaches at Hofstra Univerity's School of Communication, drawing on 29 years experience as a senior editor, art director and director of design in news media.
His background includes a degree in art from Tulane University, a Master's from Hofstra, and work as a monitor at the Art Students League of New York, assisting James Lancel McElhinney, Leonid Gervits, and Oldrich Teply. He has exhibited extensively on Long Island, in the Hudson Valley and in New York City.
