My mother is the painter, Mary Rankin. She began to lose her eyesight some years ago. Now almost entirely blind, she continues to find new ways to paint.
These photographs are for her. They are called “Losing the Light”. I never set out to make them; they stubbornly insinuated themselves into every body of work I started over the last 10 years. Most have never been shown before. It’s an honor to be exhibiting them simultaneously with Rankin’s current show: “Pentimento”.
